Years 7 and 8

A successful transition to secondary school is of great importance to a young person's future social and academic achievements. At Marian College our focus in these years is to engage all students in their learning. To excite them about the possibilities that secondary school presents and to support them as they develop positive relationships in a new environment.

In Year 7 & 8 students learn about the Habits of Mind and use these as a framework for discovering more about themselves and how they best learn. The Habits of Mind, are a set of behaviours (or habits) that productive learners and thinkers use. At both year levels, personal learning goals are set and evaluated regularly.

A digital learning portfolio is constructed to show the students' achievement of their learning goals and their use of the Habits of Mind.

In Year 7 and 8 the students study the following subjects:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Humanities
  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Language other than English (Indonesian or Italian)
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Visual Arts (Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics and Visual Communication)
  • Technology (Textiles, Wood, Food and Environmental)
