    Vito Milana

    Director of School Improvement and Innovation

    After briefly teaching first year Behavioural Science Undergraduate students at La Trobe University, Vito Milana joined Marian College in 2004.

    In 2005, he was appointed to the role of Justice and Democracy (JDF) Coordinator. Driven by a passion for justice and promoting its values through student engagement, Vito remained in this position until 2009, when he was then appointed Head of English for the College, followed by a Learning Leader appointment, a position held until 2022. During these 14 years, Vito helped progress and transform several key improvement agendas for the College, including the building of literacy skills across all year levels, and a bridging of the English Curriculum from Year 10 to VCE. Vito also oversaw the successful implementation of two different VCE English Study Designs, ensuring that students from Years 7 to 10 were equipped with necessary preparatory skills to succeed in their final years of English at the College. During this time, and in addition to tertiary studies in Psychology, Vito completed a Master of Education.

    In 2023, Vito was appointed as a member of the Senior Leadership Team as the Director of School Improvement and Innovation. Working closely with other SLT members, he helped initiate and navigate innovative processes at the College, including the growth of student voice and agency. Vito also helped establish a Growth Coaching Program in 2023, building the capacity of leaders to coach others.

    Vito Milana has also taught Year 12 English for 19 consecutive years, commencing in 2005, and has also taught English Language and Language-based subjects as part of the College’s 9/10 Elective Program. He is passionate about English and its continuously rich and transformative landscape.

    Vito Milana is an avid reader and enjoys exploring contemporary literature. He is also passionate about growing the capacity of middle leaders. He has also, over the past 15 years, helped guide Provisionally Registered Teachers throughout their journeys towards establishing full registration. Vito has also assessed the VCAA Units 3 and 4 English Examination since 2005, the VCAA General Achievement Test since 2004, and has also assessed NAPLAN since its inception. In 2022, Vito served as a Group Leader for the NAPLAN Project; this position was elevated in 2023 to Professional Leader. Vito has also worked with ACARA and the VCAA in helping establish Literacy Proficiency Standards for the NAPLAN Writing Task. He has worked on other ACARA projects including Item Trial Marking, too.
